Growing in Christ
Growing in our relationship with the Lord takes some intentional work. Scripture tells us that it is Christ who grows us, but there are some definite things we can do to help.
Personal Prayer & Bible Study
We believe that it is important to have personal relationship with Jesus that is more than brief prayers for food or when we need something. Dedicating a daily time for prayer and the study of God's word is crucial to growing that relationship. This time helps us to have a healthy heart and to know His voice.
Investing in Relationships
This is what best defines who we are as a church. We are called to be a body, all working together to be the hands and feet of Jesus. More than anything else we are called to develop healthy relationships not only within our church but with all those we come into contact with. We are called to come alongside and support our fellow brothers and sisters. We are also called to seek out and mentor those who do not have a relationship with Jesus.
We believe that we truly need each other. We offer opportunities for community in smaller groups as well as ministry to others. We see both connecting and serving as very important.
Gathering for Corporate Worship
We gather weekly to worship God. We take the opportunity to thank and praise God for all that He has done for us. We spend time singing worshipful songs, reading Scripture, praying to God, and renewing our commitment to Him. We also listen and respond to a message brought to us by one of our pastors. These sermons are biblically-based and help to provide some practical vision for living for Christ. We believe this weekly worship time is at the heart of what we do as followers of Christ. This is part of being rooted in the soil.
With these three areas in mind, we believe that a healthy relationship with the Lord will include gathering to worship, connecting with other believers, working at growing in Him through knowledge and action, serving and going... both locally and globally. Throughout this website, you will see opportunities to be involved in all of these things. While it may be tempting to make a list of these things and check them off as you accomplish them, we see these more as part of a journey with Christ. At Emmett Nazarene, we are all on this journey together. We invite you to join us in this journey.
We aren't perfect. We are still working on being who God wants us to be. No matter where you are in life or what problems you may have, we want you to know that God really does love you and He really does want a relationship with you. We can't promise that you will never hurt again. But we can tell you that with God by your side you can handle anything that life throws at you. We want to be there with you to love you and support you in your journey as you learn more about what it means to be a follower of Christ.
